The Essence of Motivation
For the past month, I've been simmering about the ins, outs, ups
and downs of motivation. I asked myself, "What motivates me to write
these newsletters every month?" And the answer was four-fold; first,
because I enjoy the writing process; second, I want to share a
message that will help the world; third, I want the message to be
of interest to my readers; and fourth, to reach out to potential
clients.
I've finished simmering, and have the following thoughts to what I
call "the essence of motivation". We are motivated by two things:
one, the desire to relieve some pain, and two, the attraction of
something to gain. In either case, we are motivated to fulfill an
emotional or physical desire that moves us from where we are to
where we want to be.
What motivates you? Is it – recognition, money, family, a
better life, more meaningful relationships, a job you're passionate
about, the desire to make a difference in the world, or even love?
For whatever reason, you play a major role in launching yourself
into a more abundant life.
Now, I'd like you to take a look at your personal and professional life
and identify any pain that needs to be relieved, or a gain that's
ready to burst into life. Once you've realized some motivators, ask
yourself the following questions before taking action.
- Does this benefit the world?
- Is it helpful or harmful to others?
- Is this for my highest good?
If your answers are in-line with your values, you're on the path
to making a shift for the better. The next step is action, the
key to moving you from where you are to where you want to be.
Think of it this way, the essence of motivation incites
opportunities for personal growth – a true gain.
Writing this newsletter has given me an opportunity to gain more
clients, express my views, while encouraging others to take action
and grow. There is really no pain, except for the occasional
mental challenge in deciding what to write about.
What about you – where do you want to be? Is there a pain
or gain motivator simmering inside? Or, are there many motivators
boiling over and ready for action? Either way, I'm available to help
you move through the pain, see the gain and – grow.
